It’s a whale of a crime. Literally.

Yarmouth police are asking the public for help in finding whoever took the left side of a right whale jaw bone from the International Fund for Animal Welfare headquarters on Summer Street in Yarmouthport. The crime was originally reported last Wednesday.

The left jaw bone, which measures between 6 and 7 feet long, is valued at at least $5,000. It was being stored outside, police said.

IFAW officials declined comment on the matter when reached via email by Boston.com.
