A Mattapan man allegedly punched an MBTA Silver Line bus driver in the face repeatedly Friday night after the driver didn’t stop where he wanted him to.

Garcia Lewis, 43, was still seated on the bus when he was arrested, according to a release.

Witnesses told police that Lewis became upset when the driver did not stop after he hit a stop-request button. The driver explained that he couldn’t stop at the location where Lewis wanted him to, and Lewis then began punching him, witnesses said.

He allegedly hit the driver 10 to 12 times. The incident happened around 10:20 p.m. near the Tufts Medical Center stop.

The bus driver was taken to a hospital with facial injuries, police said.

Garcia was charged with assault and battery on a public employee, according to transit police superintendent Richard Sullivan.
