A 68-year-old man struck in a Somerville hit-and-run crash has died, police say

Kevin Demont was hit around 3 a.m. Sunday in a crosswalk at the Mystic Avenue and Shore Drive intersection, authorities said.

A 68-year-old man who was struck in an early morning hit-and-run crash in Somerville Sunday has died as authorities continue to search for a suspect, police said Wednesday.

Kevin Demont, who investigators believe was homeless, was hit by an unknown driver around 3 a.m. at the Route 38 (Mystic Avenue) and Shore Drive intersection, Massachusetts State Police said in a statement.

Authorities said their preliminary investigation shows Demont was “within the area of a marked crosswalk” when he was struck.

He was brought to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries and died the following day, officials said.

The incident came just over a month after a 52-year-old Somerville woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash as she crossed Mystic Avenue within a crosswalk on July 20.

State police continue to probe Sunday’s crash and ask anyone who has information about the driver or vehicle involved to call 781-396-0100.
