An Andover man allegedly secretly placed a camera in his relatives’ bathroom to record his niece. Now, he’s being charged.

Daniel Powell, 58, of Lovejoy Road, was arrested Thursday by Barnstead, New Hampshire, police and charged with violation of privacy, authorities said.

It was in August that the family’s teenage daughter found what police have called a “micro spy camera” hidden in their bathroom, according to police.

“It was also discovered during the investigation that Powell had been visiting relatives in Barnstead and surreptitiously placed the camera in the bathroom in an attempt to secretly record his niece,” police said.

A search warrant was obtained for Powell’s home where authorities found and confiscated cell phones, a laptop, and “other electronic devices,” which are being combed for evidence, according to officials.

Powell is scheduled to appear in Laconia District Court at 8 a.m. on Nov. 7, police said.
