A Monday night shooting in Canton left one innocent bystander injured, according to police.
Canton’s deputy police chief, Helena Rafferty, said a woman was shot around 10 p.m. near York Street and Ledgebrook Drive. Her injuries were not believed to be life threatening.
Police Chief Kenneth Berkowitz told reporters Tuesday morning that the gunfire appears to have been a shootout between people in two cars.
WBZ reported that Berkowitz said the injured woman is a 20-year-old whose calf was struck as she left a friend’s house.
No arrests have been made, and Rafferty said police were still working the scene Tuesday.
A tweet from the department told York Street area residents they might see investigators and police dogs Tuesday morning.
“This is an evidentiary search only,” it read. “We are not actively seeking any suspects in the area.”
