Ortiz was found by police in the Worcester apartment building just after 1 a.m. with a gunshot wound to the chest. She was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.
The shooting took place in a 14-room brick apartment building that’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places, according to The Telegram & Gazette.
The building’s landlord, Chris Valeri, said the victim was not a tenant and anyone carrying a gun in the building would be in violation of the their lease agreement.
The building was the site of 11 opioid or heroin overdoses in the yearlong period between Sept. 1, 2016 and Aug. 31, 2017, according to police records.
