A Massachusetts man has been charged with the murder of a 20-year-old woman found shot in the driver’s seat of her car.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Hudson Chief of Police Michael Burks announced that Luis Santos, 23, of Hudson, was in custody after turning himself in at the Hudson Police Department on Friday evening. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
Ryan said Santos’ surrender was arranged through his attorney.
Police said a preliminary investigation suggested he fatally shot Karla Rodriguez of Framingham in her vehicle before fleeing the scene on foot Thursday afternoon. Ryan told reporters it appears the two had been in a relationship for several months and were returning to a home in Hudson when there was a disagreement and Santos allegedly fired several shots at Rodriguez.
Rodriguez was taken to an area hospital and later transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, where she was pronounced dead early Friday. A neighbor told NECN that Rodriguez was the mother of an infant.
Besides murder, Santos faces charges assault and battery with dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, unlawful possession of a firearm and armed assault with intent to murder.
