Teen arrested in Mattapan on firearm charges

Police recovered a semi-automatic gun with ten rounds of ammunition.

A 15-year-old was arrested on gun charges near Almont Park in Mattapan on Monday night, according to Boston Police. The teen will be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court.

Police reported that officers were patrolling Mattapan near Almont Park around 5:26 p.m. on July 19 when they made the arrest. Officers were responding to recent information of teenagers fighting near Tennis Road and Blue Hills Avenue in Mattapan.

The teens reportedly fled the scene upon police arrival, which is when the officers reported they heard roughly six to eight gunshots.

The officers then said they saw two suspects biking away from the scene toward Favre Street. One of the two bikers disposed of a fanny pack that showed a firearm grip.

There was one victim to the gunshots in Almont Park, who police said was transported by Boston EMS to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Police said they were able to arrest one of the suspects, while the other suspect got away. The teenager was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm.

The gun was later identified as an American Tactical semi-automatic .22 with ten rounds of ammunition.
