Man arrested in Peabody in connection with deadly shooting

A man was arrested Sunday night in connection with the murder of 25-year-old Peabody local Prince Thompson.

An arrest warrant was issued for Charles Burgess, 26, of Peabody after he was identified by a witness, WCVB reports. Police were called in the late evening to 78 Wallis St where they found Thompson with a single gunshot wound.

“Burgess then fired a round at Thompson, striking him in the chest area,” said prosecutor Heidi Sylvanowicz. The prosecutor also said Burgess then fled alongside an unidentified masked man to Thompson’s car.

Thompson was transported to Salem Hospital, but did not survive, WHDH reported.

A friend of the victim, DeShawn Houston called Thompson a “good kid,” according to WCVB. “High school graduate, had a hard-working job, loved to play sports, fitness junkie,” Houston said. “He was a really good guy, he was a really good man.”

Neighbors who witnessed the incident said it began with screaming and an argument, but “it just turned into violence.” A neighbor also said there was blood “all over” Thompson’s kitchen floor.

Burgess will be arraigned for murder in Peabody District Court on Monday, according to District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett.
