Sullivan mother avoids jail in marijuana brownie case

A Maine mother whose eighth-grade son brought the marijuana-laced brownies she had baked to his school and shared them with friends has avoided jail time. Amanda Hiser of Sullivan received a 90-day suspended sentence and one year of probation in Hancock County Superior Court last week after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child. She had faced a charge of aggravated furnishing of a scheduled drug, a felony. WABI-TV reported that Hiser, 33, is licensed to use marijuana for a medical condition.
