The Voice

There are only 11 contestants left on the hit singing competition show with coaches Blake Shelton, Ariana Grande, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend. This year, three of these top 11 singers have ties to New England.

Monday’s episode marked the first day of “Fan Week” where fans get to pick what song the contestants sing. Some contestants sang their curated song for the first time, while other contestants had covered their song multiple times in the past.

Two of the contestants have ties to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, while one other contestant is from Connecticut. Meet them all below and check out what fans picked for them to sing this week

Lana Scott (Team Blake)

Lana Scott is a member of Team Blake and is a former Berklee student. According to NBC, Scott attended Berklee but left early when she got a singing opportunity on a cruise ship.

Scott is from Chesapeake, Virginia but currently lives in Los Angeles California.

She said she rediscovered her love of country music after working on the cruise ship. Previously, her grandmother, who Scott is named after, always pushed her towards country music.

This week, Scott sang the country classic “I Hope” by Gabby Barrett and stunned the coaches.

Last week Scott was saved from elimination when Shelton used his final save to push her into the top 11 finalists.

Gymani (Team Kelly)

Gymani was accepted into Berklee, but never attended due to financial issues. She is a 23-year-old single mom now.

She is from Atlanta, Georgia, and now lives in East Point, Georgia. According to her profile, she has never given up on her dream of pursuing music and has spent time performing at various events in Atlanta.

This week, she sang “Diamonds” by Rihanna. During an interview on the show, Gymani said she had previously uploaded a cover of the song to her YouTube channel a few years ago.

Jim & Sasha Allen (Team Ariana)

Jim Allen is a music teacher after playing in various bands and taught his son Sasha to play the guitar at age 6. The two have been playing gigs and local open mic nights ever since.

Sasha came out as transgender in high school. While his family was supportive, there were difficult years, and music helped him get through the hard times.

This week, Jim and Sasha sang “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Jim , in addition to singing.

Shelton asked Jim, who played a mandolin and had a harmonica around his neck, if there was an instrument he didn’t play.

“The stock market,” Jim replied.

“The Voice” is now taking votes until 7 a.m. Tuesday morning to decide which contestants will move forward.
