Dame Maggie Smith, seventh from right, and Paul Giamatti each earned an Emmy nod for their respective roles in the PBS drama, “Downton Abbey.’’ Smith was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Violet Crawley for the fourth year in a row. She won the award in 2011 and 2012. She has also taken home a pair of Academy Awards (“California Suite,’’ “The Prime of Miss Jean Brode’’), and a 1987 Golden Globe for the film “A Room with a View’’ (Actress in a Supporting Role).“Sideways’’ actor Giamatti, who was nominated for his portrayal of Harold Levinson in the period show, has been nominated for a 2005 Oscar (“Cinderella Man’’), among other film awards.
