Boston Children’s Hospital is best pediatric hospital in the country, report says

Boston Children’s has defended its position as the best pediatric hospital in the nation for another year in the latest rankings compiled by U.S. News & World Report.

The hospital took the top spot on the honor roll for 2016-17 and was ranked as the best hospital in eight of 10 pediatric specialities: cardiology, gastroenterology, neonatology, nephrology (kidney function), neurology, orthopedics, and urology.

In addition, Dana-Farber Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center was ranked highest for treating pediatric cancer.

Boston Children’s was ranked second in the two categories of pediatric diabetes and endocrinology and pulmonology.

“Our patients and families inspire us to do the best for them every single day and these rankings reflect that dedication,” Sandra L. Fenwick, Boston Children’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “Families look to Boston Children’s for answers and it’s our job to provide them with the very best care.”


U.S. News & World Report collected data from 183 hospitals for the rankings, according to its website. Seventy-eight hospitals were ranked in the top 50 for at least one specialty.

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia was second on the honor roll and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center was ranked third.

Boston Children’s also came in first place on the report for 2015-16, 2014-15, and 2013-14.
