An 18-year-old Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School football player was flown to a hospital after he was seriously injured during practice Tuesday afternoon, according to Bourne Fire Department officials.
First responders received an emergency call at 3:42 p.m. initially reporting a football player had come in contact with another player and had a head laceration at the school at 220 Sandwich Road, Assistant Fire Chief David Cody told Boston.com.
A medical helicopter first attempted to land in Bourne — at both the Gallo Ice Arena on Sandwich Road and the former Ella F. Hoxie School on Williston Road, The Cape Cod Times reports — but was unable to because of fog, according to Cody.
The injured player, a Wareham resident, was then brought to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth before he was flown to Rhode Island Hospital, Cody said, adding the football player could have suffered a possible head or spinal injury.
The injuries were not considered life threatening, the Times reports.
Later Tuesday night, school Superintendent Robert Dutch told NECN the victim was able to move his limbs.
