Even as billboards urge offices to “Go Google,’’ the search giant’s office suite is facing sporadic outages as its Drive product hiccups.
Particularly favored by many small businesses and start-ups that rely on its low price (starting at free) and collaborative prowess, Google Drive, the bedrock “cloud’’ file system, was offering only limited or no access to some users Monday morning.
“We’re investigating reports of an issue with Google Drive,’’ the company posted in a Drive status update. “We will provide more information shortly.’’
Since Google Apps, the company’s web-based alternative to traditional office suites like Microsoft Office, is almost entirely in the cloud, such disruptions can have an impact on both individual users as well as organizations. Boise State, for example, reported that it was experiencing issues as well.
There was some speculation that the outage was related to an upcoming new feature.
