Better cellular voice and data reception on the T has been a welcome productivity boost — or distraction — for many commuters, but members of “America’s fastest 4G Network,’’ Verizon, have had only Green Line-level connectivity. That will soon change.

Currently, as Galen Moore reported for Boston Business Journal, only AT&T and T-Mobile have taken advantage of expanded underground wireless capability operated by third party InSite Wireless. Previously, Verizon service was limited to four central stations as well as any wireless signal that could penetrate from its above-ground antenna.

By the end of the year, InSite’s Joe Mullin told Moore, Verizon will offer voice coverage underground with 4G data coverage coming in early 2014.

As Matt Rocheleau reported last year, the initially covered stations, which Verizon is currently limited to, were Government Center, Park Street, Downtown Crossing, and State Street.
