PTC, a Needham-based company with a focus on product-lifecycle-management software, said that Brooks Sports Inc. will be using PTC Windchill FlexPLM software to speed up the design and efficiency of bringing Brooks running shoes and athletic apparel to market.

Brooks’s decision will enable the Washington state-based company to move a single system to streamline product development, materials management, and sourcing requirements, PTC said in a press release.

PTC Windchill FlexPLM “give us visibility early in the development cycles and will enable us to share design, materials, and costing information between ourselves and our suppliers to achieve our growth plans,’’ Brooks Sports president and chief executive David Bohan said in a statement.

In a separate statement, PTC’s Howard Heppelmann said, “Within the fast-paced environment of today’s footwear and apparel industries, business leaders are increasingly looking to collapse design, development and sourcing activities in order to reduce cycle time, achieve cost objectives and improve the success rate of new products across their various channels.’’

Brooks Sports is a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc.

With more than 6,000 employees, PTC has more than 27,000 customers worldwide.
