Her Campus Media acquires HerUni.com to expand UK presence

Her Campus Media, a Boston-based marketing firm that curates an online community for college women called HerCampus.com, said it has completed an acquisition that will strengthen the company’s presence in the UK.

In buying HerUni Media Limited, Her Campus Media said that the acquisition advances the firm’s goal of cementing its “position globally as the leading brand in the female college space.’’

The financial details of the transaction are not being disclosed.

As a result of the deal, the company says it now has “a feet-on-the-ground presence at 250 campuses across five countries, with site traffic of over 3.3 million monthly visitors.’’


Such site traffic offers “marketers unprecedented access to the female college demographic,’’ the firm says.

Because the content on HerCampus.com is authored by current undergraduates, the site contends it is also a “career-launching platform for students interested in pursuing careers in media.’’

Early Thursday afternoon, the site featured stories offering advice on such topics as smooth skin maintenance and dating (“6 Things You Should Never Say to Your Crush’’).

Her Campus Media has 12 full-time people in its Boston office as well as a network of more than 4,000 contributors worldwide, Kaplan said in an e-mail.
