Boston’s Freight Farms raises $1.2 million in Series A Funding

Boston-based modular agriculture startup Freight Farms has raised $1.2 million in a Series A round led by Morningside Venture Investments Limited with participation by Launch Capital and Rothenberg Ventures, the company announced.

The company, which Scott Kirsner profiled in July, turns used shipping containers into portable greenhouses, making it easy to drop in year-round growing facilities in some of the most unlikely places, such as roofs and parking lots.

Founders Brad McNamara and Jon Friedman raised over $30,000 on Kickstarter to get the project rolling in 2012.
