I know a nurse who gives of herself in and out of work in a helping, compassionate manner. Though she works full time, she also volunteers to take care of friends and neighbors who are ill. She gives knowledge and time to those in need and never turns anyone down. She will pick up the phone and talk with people, make referrals, and stop by to help with medications. Janet is also a mentor to new nurses in the home care field and does joint visits with them until they can make decisions on their own. Her communication skills are both professional and humorous; she allows us to laugh at ourselves and learn how to deal with people and families in respectful and realistic ways. She is an asset to the field of behavioral health. I am proud to know her.
