I have spent a great deal of time at the Vernon Cancer Center of Newton-Wellesley Hospital this past year for surgeries, radiation, chemotherapy, and other treatments. The doctors, nurses, and the entire medical staff have been extraordinarily caring, but one person stands out: Maria Liddick, RN. She was always upbeat and reassuring and a pleasure to see. When she came to my chair, my fears subsided. Whenever it was difficult to find my veins for a chemo infusion (and that was often), she was there to accomplish the task without requiring me to have another surgery. She said on several occasions that she loved and admired her patients. I know for sure that her patients truly love her. As head nurse of the chemotherapy department, she demonstrates all the qualities required for this nomination.

I was in the hospital for five days. Every time Sharon came, she was compassionate and caring and just as nice as she could be. She made me feel comfortable when I wasn’t.
