During my father’s 90th year, his dementia progressed to a point where he required constant care. The day he entered Roscommon in West Roxbury was the saddest day of my life. It was also the day I met Maise O’Brien. Maise’s compassion and warmth towards not only my dad but my family was the beginning of a truly special bond. Her excellent assessment skills were accurate and adjustment to a plan of care was immediate. Maise was always able to determine the best course of action for a very fragile population who cannot always speak for themselves. During my dad’s final days, Maise guided our family by providing comfort and dignity. The loss of my dad is a void that will never be filled, but our thoughts of Maise and her compassionate care is a great source of comfort.
