Our school nurse, Janet, is a remarkable person and caregiver. She could sit in her office and wait for kids to come to her, but NO… that is not Janet Weinstein. She is everywhere in our school—a proactive, caring professional. Every morning, regardless of the weather, she stands at the front door greeting every child by name. She knows each student well and cares deeply about each one. During lunches, she is in the cafeteria checking on students with allergies, making sure that they are safe. She has often come into my classroom to check on a student who had visited her earlier in the day with an ailment just to see how they were doing. She always follows up, checking on sick children, or children who might just need a little extra kindness.
At the end of the day you will see her at dismissal, checking in with kids, parents, and teachers. Janet is there 100 percent for her students, and the adults in the school know that she is there for them for advice, love, and care. I feel lucky to work with such a caring professional. Janet Weinstein is a treasure.
