My mother was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer in February, on her 81st birthday. She was given two months to live. Three days later we met hospice nurse Barbara Blaine. Barbara instantly connected with my mother, whose illness progressed very quickly. She passed in less than a month. I cannot tell you what an angel Barbara was; she stood shoulder to shoulder with me helping my mother and me through this process. Barbara gave me her cell phone number, which I called daily, and she was so comforting. Even though we only know each other for three weeks, it seemed like a lifetime. When I saw her after my mother had passed, we both cried, but we were at peace knowing we did the best we could for my mom. What a gift.
