Massachusetts is hosting a virtual job fair this week

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 16 to 20.

The Massachusetts Virtual Job Fair will feature more than 500 employers from across the state.

MassHire launched their Massachusetts Virtual Job Fair on Monday, and it’ll run from Aug. 16 to 20, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. State officials created it to provide opportunities for residents and those looking to find a job in Massachusetts.

The fair is split into five days, each with different categories. Monday and Thursday are the general job fair, with employers from all industries present. Tuesday is for manufacturing, professional services, and finance; Wednesday is health care, human services, hospitality, and education; and Friday is information technology, building services, and others.

“Massachusetts is returning to work, and the administration wants to put you in the best possible position we can to help you succeed,” Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker said.

The free event for both employers and jobseekers has over 500 participating employers from towns and cities across Massachusetts. It will be held online via Premier Virtual, where participants can video chat with employers, send their resumes, review job openings, and find more information on the companies.

The job fair comes just weeks before federal unemployment benefits, implemented in March 2020, end the first week of September. No payments will be made after Sept. 4, even if the unemployed claimant has a balance or remaining weeks. More than 7.5 million people are estimated to lose benefits.

Nationally, employers are struggling to fill the record number of job openings in order to meet the demands that have increased significantly. Massachusetts state officials are urging residents to find jobs before the unemployment benefits are unavailable.
