Postcard collection put online
Residents have the opportunity to view online the public’s library collection of 300 old postcards depicting West Bridgewater scenes. The Boston Public Library recently offered a service to other local libraries in which it digitized items from their historical collections. West Bridgewater took advantage of the offer, which the Boston Public Library was able to provide through a federal grant. During the winter, Boston Public Library’s digitization team scanned and converted to electronic form a number of items from the West Bridgewater library’s historical collection, including the postcards and pages from Middle-Senior High School yearbooks, according to Beth Roll Smith, the town’s library director. The digitized images were loaded on to disks and provided to SAILS Library Network, the regional library consortium to which West Bridgewater belongs. To view the postcards, go to www.sailsinc.org, and click on “Historical Collection’’ under the “Suggested Sites’’ heading.
