Mass. fugitive surrenders in Puerto Rico

A man from the Dominican Republic who is wanted on assault and drug charges in Massachusetts has surrendered to authorities in Puerto Rico, officials said Tuesday. Yael Sanchez Correa faces charges that include mayhem and armed assault with intent to murder in an extremely violent attack on his former girlfriend in June 2011 in Chelsea, Mass., said Jake Wark, a spokesman for the Suffolk district attorney’s office. Sanchez, 27, is accused of stabbing the woman and slashing her face in an ambush attack, then stabbing the woman’s sister when she tried to intervene, Wark said.
