At Orchard Cove, a 240-resident retirement community situated on 38 acres on the banks of Reservoir Pond in Canton, seniors have embraced Vitality 360, a goal-orient
ed fitness program introduced nearly three years ago.
Ninety percent of residents at Orchard Cove participate. Since 2011, the number of residents who exercise rose from 33 percent to nearly 75 percent. Eighty percent of participants developed a fitness plan and exercise more than twice a week.
The program is launching in three other Boston-area retirement communities and is already underway at a community in New Hampshire:
Center Communities of Brookline, a 517-unit community with three buildings at locations near Coolidge Corner and Washington Square in Brookline.
NewBridge on the Charles, a community in Dedham serving 353 residents with cottages, villa apartments, and traditional assisted-living apartments.
Jack Satter House,
a 266-unit specialized housing apartment complex, Revere Beach, Revere.
Kendal at Hanover, a 420-resident facility located near Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H.
