Mosquito scare means curfew for players

Student athletes at Canton High School will be observing practice curfews this fall because of the health threat posed by mosquitoes infected with eastern equine encephalitis, a rare and potentially deadly virus. The town is designated “high risk,’’ which means the state public health department considers the area “very likely’’ to see multiple cases of human disease. School administrators, in consultation with the local health board, have decided practices must end on grass fields by 6 p.m. until Labor Day, and practices on artificial turf must end by 8 p.m.
