School-police accord being revised

A subcommittee charged with revising a Memorandum of Understanding between Dedham Public Schools and the town’s Police Department is back to the drawing board after hearing this month from residents who still had concerns about the document. Several parents were concerned in particular about a section of the document requiring the reporting of names of both crime victims and perpetrators. The committee will reevaluate the memorandum, which calls for police to notify the schools when high school students are involved in illegal activity such as drinking, using drugs, and domestic violence, during the school year. The School Committee is expected to vote on the revised document at its Sept. 5 meeting.
