Building a new church in Manomet

St. Bonaventure Parish is getting ready to build a new church, and A.P. Whitaker & Sons Inc. of West Bridgewater has been chosen general contractor for the project. On Sunday, the Rev. John A. Dooher, an auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Boston, will celebrate the 11:30 a.m. Mass at St. Bonaventure’s. At around 12:20 p.m., he will lead the congregation in a procession to the site of the new church for a blessing before the project gets under way. According to St. Bonaventure’s website, the parish has grown from 5,108 registered parishioners in 1990 to 12,249 in 2010. The church, at 799 State Road, was built in 1951 and seats 550 people.
After the new church is built, the existing church will be converted to a parish hall.
