Meeting on Route 123 reconstruction
Proposed reconstruction of Route 123 in Norton will be the topic of an informational meeting for the public on Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. at the Norton Public Library. The proposed work would include reconstructing East Main Street (Route 123) from Pine Street to Interstate 495, with two 11-foot travel lanes and paved shoulders. It also would include installation of a drainage system and, on at least one side of the street, a five-foot-wide sidewalk. Work would take place within the existing road layout and would not require the taking of additional land, according to a notice from the Norton Highway Department. Asked about the timeline, department secretary Nashlee Ketchum said the project still needs approval from state and local officials.
