Residents encouraged to recycle old textiles

Newburyport officials are launching a new program to encourage residents to recycle old textiles instead of disposing of them. On the first Saturday of every month, the Crow Lane Recycling Center will accept all textiles, provided they are clean and dry. Stained items will be accepted. Residents who wish to recycle their textiles prior to Nov. 3 may drop the items off between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday at Mayor Donna Holaday’s Health and Wellness Fair at City Hall. Eco Smith Recyclers Inc. of Londonderry, N.H., will have a large truck at the event to collect textiles. For more information about the city’s Zero Waste initiative, call 978-499-0412.
