New headmaster to begin at Groton School in July 2013

A new headmaster will take over at the Groton School effective July 1, 2013, the school announced. Temba Maqubela, who currently serves as assistant head for academics and dean of faculty at Phillips Academy in Andover, was unanimously approved by the Groton School’s board of trustees, the statement said. He will succeed Richard B. Commons, who is headed to Los Angeles to serve as president of the Harvard-Westlake School, the Groton School said. Maqubela was awarded a White House Distinguished Teacher Award in 1993. according to the school’s statement.
