Lions holiday event

A century and a half after the Civil War, the Quincy Lions Club marks the ongoing anniversary with a Civil War-themed holiday event on Dec. 5.

The event, which will take place alongside the Quincy Historical Society’s exhibit “Quincy and the Civil War,’’ will feature wine tasting and a performance by Diane Taraz, director of the Lexington Historical Society Colonial Singers.

According to spokeswoman Jennifer Logue, the wine tasting is one of the organization’s main fund-raisers. Money helps fight blindness, aid disaster-relief efforts, and helps Quincy public schools with scholarships and eye exams.

“All of the money raised goes right back into the community,’’ Logue said.

Typically, 70 to 100 people attend the event, which is usually done in partnership with other local organizations. “You’re not just learning about the Lions, you learn about other community organizations as well,’’ she said.

Tickets are $25 per person and may be purchased online at Tickets will also be available at the door. To learn more about Taraz, visit
