Chafee, Fung, Taveras announce $2m for youth jobs

Governor Lincoln Chafee, Mayor Angel Taveras of Providenvce, and Mayor Allan Fung of Cranston have put politics aside to highlight a $2.1 million youth employment program. The three announced the program Thursday. It will provide part-time summer jobs with local employers for 1,500 youths ages 14 to 24. Chafee, Taveras, and Fung are possible contenders in next year’s governor’s race. Taveras and Fung praised Chafee for directing state funding to the program, which they say provides workforce training for young workers.
