More than 850 jurors called for trial of Whitey Bulger

A total of 858 potential jurors have been called for the trial of James “Whitey’’ Bulger, a record high in a federal court in Massachusetts and nearly 100 more than originally planned, a federal official said Thursday. The jurors were called beginning Tuesday for the first step in the selection process, and each completed a multipage questionnaire to screen their background. Lawyers in the case are set to return for a hearing at 10 a.m. Friday to determine which jurors should be eliminated based on the questionnaire. The remaining jurors will return to court for additional questions beginning Monday.
