A report on the fatal shooting of Ibragim Todashev, a Chechen man linked to Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, clears the FBI agent involved.

The Boston Globe reports:

A Florida prosecutor said today that a Boston FBI agent was justified in using deadly force to shoot and kill a friend of one of the suspected Boston Marathon bombers in May, saying the man attacked the agent with a long pole as the agent and Massachusetts State Police interrogated him in his Orlando apartment.

The report contains the results of Florida state attorney Jeff Aston’s investigation into the May 22 incident in which the 27-year-old was fatally shot by an FBI agent during an interrogation in Orlando. Todashev was being questioned in his home by FBI agents and Massachusetts State Police about his friendship with Tsarnaev.

The Associated Press reported:

Officials originally said the 27-year-old lunged at an agent with a knife. They later said it was no longer clear what happened.

The report released today said Todashev was shot seven times in defense of another.

Todashev, a mixed-martial arts fighter, previously lived in Massachusetts. His family and friends have previously questioned the FBI’s account of the shooting, saying they don’t believe Todashev did anything wrong. The report is the only independent investigation into the fatal shooting, according to The Boston Globe.

The Orlando Sentinel reported that Todashev linked Tsarnaev to a triple homicide in Massachusetts during the interview.

The Associated Press reported:

In that case, three men were found in an apartment with their necks slit and their bodies reportedly covered with marijuana. One of the victims was a boxer and friend of Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, and his brother Dzokhar, 20, are suspected of orchestrating the Marathon bombing on April 15 that killed three people and wounded more than 260 others. Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed in a shootout with police just days after the bombings. Dzokhar Tsarnaev now faces the death penalty in the bombing.
