Emergency Crews in Maine Dig Through Trash to Recover Man’s Body From ‘Hoarding Situation’

A man in Lewiston, Maine, died this week but his body was difficult to recover as police and fire crews had to dig through garbage and other debris inside the man’s home.

WCVB reported that the man’s wife found him dead on Monday in the two-story Lincoln Street home. When emergency responders arrived, the report says they “encountered what they described as a hoarding situation.’’

More from WCVB:

Police said they had to shovel away trash to reach the man who was lying in his bed.

There was so much trash the doors would not open, police said.

The report added that code enforcement officials were investigating at the home on Tuesday.
