A woman was found brutally beaten with serious head wounds on Chestnut Street in Chelsea early Sunday morning.
WBZ reports that the woman remains in critical condition at Mass General Hospital neighbors discovered her around 4:45 a.m. She was reportedly only partially clothed.
The extent of her injuries were so severe that police initially believed the woman may have been stabbed in the head. Evidence suggests the victim was attacked on the third floor of 276 Chestnut St. and stumbled outside, where she later collapsed, according to WCVB.
Police quickly arrested Manuel Marroquin, 26, who lives in the same building, adding the incident was neither random nor domestic in nature. He was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
The Boston Globe reports the woman, who has not been identified, appeared to be in her 20s and bleeding badly from the face and mouth.
