Charity runners at the 2014 Boston Marathon raised a record $38.4 million for nonprofit organizations this year, the AP reports.

More than 30 charities accepted runners’ applications this year, according to The Boston Athletic Association. Runners raised more than double the amount compared to the previous year.

The 2014 Boston Marathon marked the first year of the run since two bombs exploded near the finish line, killing three and injuring hundreds more.
