Cape Cod Man Badly Burned When Mortar-Style Firework Hits Him in Chest

An incident in Dennisport involving a mortar-style firework hitting a man in the chest has left the 47-year-old with life-threatening injuries, reports The Boston Globe. Dennis Fire responded to the scene at Chase’s Ocean Grove, a colony of cottages, around 10 p.m. on Thursday.

The Boston Globe spoke with Dennis Fire Chief Robert Brown:

The man suffered life-threatening first and second-degree burns to 60 percent of his body, Brown said. He was taken to Cape Cod Hospital and later transferred by ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital.

Brown said today he did not know the man’s current condition.

Fireworks are illegal in Massachusetts and the incident is under investigation.
