Needham Street in Newton Reopened After Water Main Break

UPDATE 5 p.m.: Needham Street in Newton has been reopened following a “massive’’ water main break at 10 am this morning.

According to The Newton Patch the entirety of Needham Street in Newton was shut down after authorities said a water main broke. Fire officials reportedly said part of the road was “buckling.’’

Despite reports that residents would be able to access the road from Columbia avenue by noon, a WBZ news editor tweeted around 1:15 that the scene was not improving:

The Boston Globe reported that a spokeperson for Newton Fire Department said: “It’s going to be a traffic nightmare here for the day.’’ He also said that the street would likely be closed beyond evening rush hour.

The Newton Patch also stated the police said businesses on the street were closed and there were “major traffic delays’’ and road detours.
