Stephen Silva, a close friend of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev who allegedly provided the gun that was used to kill MIT police office Sean Collier, plead not guilty to gun and drug charges in federal court.

Silva, 21, was arrested last month and charged with distribution of heroin and possession of a gun with an obliterated serial number. That gun is suspected of being the same gun that killed Collier.

In a hearing that lasted mere “seconds,’’ The Boston Globe reported, Silva pleaded not guilty to all eight counts against him. WBZ’s Carl Stevens reported that federal prosecutors expect to call 10 witnesses at his impending trial, which they estimate will last one week.

Silva faces up to 40 years in jail if convicted.

Silva waived his right to a bail hearing and will remain in custody.

After the hearing, people reported to be friends of Silva confronted members of the media, making “obscene gestures’’ and pushing cameramen, Stevens and Fox 25’s Kevin Rothstein reported:
