Attorneys for Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev were in court Thursday morning to ask a federal judge to change the location and the start date of the trial.
Tsarnaev’s defense team said they plan to formally file a motion by Aug. 29 to have the trial moved to Washington, DC., to avoid potential bias.
His trial is currently scheduled to begin Nov. 3. The defense did not provide an alternative start date. Tsarnaev waived his right to be present in the courtroom for the hearing.
The prosecution has been given one week to respond to the motion to change the venue, the judge ordered Thursday. The next hearing is scheduled for Sept. 18.
