Sex Offender Gets 2 Years for Failing to Register with State

Officials say a Rhode Island man has been sentenced to two years in prison and five years of supervised release after failing to register as a sex offender.

Ryan Hathaway, 32, was convicted in 2004 of indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14.

Hathaway also served jail time in 2012 for failing to register.

Less than a month after his release to Massachusetts in 2013, Hathaway cut off his GPS tracking bracelet and fled to Rhode Island, where he resided near a Pawtucket elementary school until December 2013.
