A Brockton High School teacher was arrested on sex assault charges this week after prosecutors said he forcibly raped a 14-year-old student.
Joaquim Andrade, 56, was arraigned Friday on charges of aggravated rape, two counts of indecent assault and battery of a child over 14 and enticement of a child under 16. He pleaded not guilty and was held on $20,000 cash bail.
The Brockton Enterprise reports that Andrade allegedly created a fake Facebook page to lure the student, whom he later picked up at home for a ride to a soccer game. It was during that ride Andrade allegedly twice assaulted the girl.
One of Andrade’s lawyers told the Boston Globe that by next week “it will be clear Mr. Andrade has done absolutely nothing wrong.’’
“After speaking to him in great length yesterday, it is my understanding that he has not broken any criminal laws,’’ attorney Jeffrey A. Denner told the paper.
The teacher has been put on leave and ordered not to have contact with any children under the age of 17.
