Republicans Take Control of the Senate

Asexpected, Republicans have taken control of the Senate. Before the results were tallied and the elections were called, it was widely assumed that the GOP would get the six seats it needed seats to swing a simple majority.

Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Arkansas, Colorado and Louisiana were the focal points of the Republican effort to sieze a majority, in a year with vulnerable Democratic incumbents defending Senate seats in Republican-leaning states.

Of those states, only New Hampshire went Democrat, with Louisiana poised for a runoff this December.

With Obama’s approval numbers at an all-time low of 42 percent, the GOP has made a concerted effort to wed Democratic opponents to the Preisdent and his actions in office.
