Boston Fire Department officials later confirmed that a small fire in a utility/storage room prompted an evacuation of the station, which services the city’s Green and Orange Lines. MBTA communications director Joe Pesaturo told boston.com the smoke was first seen near the Orange Line platform.
“[The] fire [was] quickly extinguished but…generated a large amount of smoke,’’ the department tweeted.
Two firefighters were treated and transported to nearby hospitals by Boston Emergency Medical Services, though fire officials said their injuries were not considered life threatening.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
