Man Killed by Police Had Child With Mayor Walsh’s Girlfriend

A man shot and killed by police outside a Weymouth home early Monday morning had a child with the girlfriend of Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, according to multiple reports.

Paul Campbell, 49, was pronounced dead at South Shore Hospital after being shot by police outside a home on Prospect Hill Drive. The body of his mother, Patricia Campbell, 72, was found on the front steps of that home, the victim of an apparent stabbing, according to Norfolk County District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey.

Mayor Walsh’s longtime girlfriend, Lorrie Higgins, had a daughter, Lauren, with Paul Campbell, according to a WCVB-TV report.

Mayor Walsh released a statement, which reads “This is an extremely personal situation and I ask that Lorrie and Lauren’s privacy be respected at this time. This is an ongoing investigation and it is not my place to speculate on why or how this happened. My focus right now is on my family, Lorrie and Lauren, and their well-being.’’

Officers arrived on the scene and encountered Paul Campbell, who was armed with at least one knife. Both officers made a simultaneous decision to use force and discharged their weapons, Morrissey said.

The two officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, officials told the Associated Press.
